Fun Trends in Specialty Cocktails

Posted on June 19, 2020 by Louis B. Delia

Everybody loves a fun cocktail, and after being cooped up for so long, this is the time to get out of the house and support your local bar or pub by trying a few new drinks. Each bartender has his or her favorite ingredients to work with, but a few drink components are popping up over and over this year.

Some Like It Hot and Spicy

If you like a spicy drink, a bloody Mary was once your only option. This season, though, drinks with an element of spiciness or heat are coming on strong. If an ingredient of a drink can be grilled or roasted, it will be to add a fullness to the drinking experience. Look for roasted and toasted fruits and nuts to spice up specialty drinks Middletown OH or in your town.

Keep It Classic

Whiskey highballs are simple and straightforward which is probably why they’re making a comeback. The basic ingredients are whiskey and ginger ale. There are tons of variations and additives to make this classic drink super special. Some recipes call for club soda rather than ginger ale and others call for the addition of lemon or lime juice. Japanese whiskey is sneaking into this American tradition, changing the flavor profile from sweet to smokey.

Spritz a Little On

If you prefer your cocktail light and refreshing, then a spritz drink is for you. Common in Italy as a before dinner drink, the spritz is delighting American taste buds as well. These drinks are lower in sugar and not as filling as some heavier cocktails relying on the orange aperitif Aperol as its main flavor ingredient. The spritz is created with sparkling wine and club soda. Top the entire drink off with an orange slice.

Specialty cocktails delight the senses on many levels. They look, smell and taste delicious. This season forgo the beer and wine and try something new. You may just find your mood lightened and your palate enriched.
